With The Current

Quay Side Showcase

Date Completed: September 2025

Purpose: Inspired by circle/curve challenge for a local show.

Favorite Detail: I love this quilt! Three parts of this quilt particularly stick out.

  1. The fin peaking into, then out of the border. I am such a sucker for that in other quilts I see, and I immediately knew I wanted to do it myself in this quilt.
  2. I had so much fun making the pieced back. I love to show the back of my quilt to folks because it normally showcases the quilting. In this case, the piecing of the back is what I’m showing off.
  3. In the top right corner, I’ve quilting in a jellyfish that I’m so proud of.

Lesson for the log book: I love the jellyfish that I quilted in, which is why it’s listed above, but it doesn’t stand out in the overall photo. I picked what I considered to be a bright yellow so it would stand out. Here, I’ve learned more about what causes quilting to stand out – that it isn’t only the coloring of the thread but also the spacing and pattern. If I had the jellyfish on the background pieces with the primarily horizontal quilting, I believe it would have stood out more.
